The fear of big brother

We all have thought, hear or read at length the possible idea that the government or some hidden company would eventually be overlooking everything we do and know more about us than what we would like them to. The protection of law is the illustration that we do not want this to happen and have a firm opinion on what the establishment (private or public) should and shouldn’t know about us. However I have recently discovered that it is very difficult to judge what is and isn’t already publicly available with or without our consent.

I am of course referring to the biggest information network that has, in the recent years, been gathering data in the form of blogs, social networks, messaging systems that have been slowly introduced into our daily life. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the improvements of communication flow, even if it is not always for the best. But there are some hidden aspects of this electronic distribution that I would like to share with you. I will try to split them is sections that I thought were appropriate. More >

Flowers at my Mom

As I was paying  a visit to my mom to say “Hi” and show my birthday present I took the opportunity to shoot some pictures of the flowers that she has on her terrace.

Nikon D90

That is it, my mind finally settled for the Nikon D90.

My friends and my little sweet bunny all participated to this birthday present and I have to say that I am very happy!

NikonD90

Now I have to learn how to use it properly and make amazing pictures :-)

Belgium National Day

IMG_0368 And so we celebrate the 179th birthday of this little country with parade, concert and fireworks! It has been a while since the last time I had a chance to go to this event, usually as it is a day off, some other things take place and the television serves as the relay of the event.

Although we had a slight shower (which is a traditional here), the overall day was absolutely great. I even had the chance to shake hand with our Prince, Phillipe as he was passing by the park.

Little trip down memory lane

Some things just happen when you have time to spare on a Sunday, I paid a little visit to the place where I grew up until I was around twelve. The little village and certainly my old house have changed a lot, but some buildings are still the same, like my old school.

It was a strange feeling to see all that, and it brought back a great amount of memories… most of them pretty nice :-)

Upload of some new photo

Aside from the fact that I have not been able to post anything on the site from my phone since the new year and the weird things that occurred in the Gallery section, I have taken the time to post some pictures on the site. I am still looking for a good template, a way to make those drop down menu a bit deeper and a way to make internet explorer 6 accept the theme that is used in for the photo gallery… plenty to do!!

Building beeing destroyed

For most of you this will have no significance at all, but it is a strange feeling to have to stand next to a building where I used to work, conduct meetings and even eat sometimes.

The decision has been taken tear it down and to replace it with, well I don”t really know but I think just a road to the other side of the building block that was there instead of having a dead end.

Whatever happens we, as in my colleagues and I, have been working in the building next door with all the commotion that are implied in the whole process of taking down a seven floor building. Let just say that some cups and other small items on our desks have had the nasty habit of moving a few milliliters every so often. And I am not even going to recount the number of deep tremors that we felt every day.

Overall I must say that they have done a good work, the building was not only connected to another, it was also surrounded by other buildings which did not leave a lot of space to maneuver the massive crate, boulders and other massive instrument of destruction that those guys are using. Oh yeah one other stuff that will not miss, is the quantity of dusts that landed in and outside our building.

On a final note i have to admit that it was old and ugly; so, good bye and welcome to whatever will come next!

Photo in the Royal Park

This is the park royal in Brussels, just in front of the king”””’’s palace and next to my current project. It”””’’s a nice place to take a walk and eat out on a sunny day.

Blizzard WWI 2008

We decided as every good geek would have taken the chance, to go the the famous (at least for us) Blizzard Worldwide Invitation. If you know nothing about the company or the event, just Google it up and you will have an idea of how popular it is for gamers. Anyway, we had fun and it was a nice event to go to, a bit expensive but seeing the goods that you get as gifts, it is not that bad. Enjoy!
